National Sican Museum

The National Sican Museum is a new museum in the city of Ferreñafe with easy access (20 km. north from Chiclayo) of the city of Chiclayo. It is along the road to the Santuario Historico Bosque de Pomac (Algarrobo Forrest).


This unique museum is the result of over two decades of research by the Sican Archaeologic Project. the main aim of the museum is dedicated to research of the Sican culture and dissemination of its results, as well as protection and storage of the material remains of this culture.

The Museum is a modern two floor concrete building covering a 2,734.05 m2 area. The first floor has administrative office, a cafeteria, artifact conservation laboratories and storage areas as well as a conference hall, a temporary exhibit hall, and a cafeteria.

The second floor is dedicated to exhibition of artifacts, illustrations and reproduction models of many aspects of the Sican culture and people.

This exhibit focuses on all aspects of the Sican people and their culture. All displayed artifacts were either derived from scientific fieldwork or careful replication using what we know of ancient technologies. You will see details of the domestic life of commoners and the process of making pottery and metals, in addition to recreation of the tombs of Sican noblemen with many gold and other valuable goods. Many artifacts are shown in their contexts of use and/or manufacture. In this regard, the exhibit also includes explanations of how archaelogists and their collaborators from other academic fields conduct their research various aspects of the Sican culture.

This museum also has the most large collection of gold objects excavated archaeologically in Peru.

Chiclayo, es la ciudad capital del departamento de Lambayeque. Ubicada en la parte norte del Perú, a 13Km. del litoral y 509 Km. de la frontera con el Ecuador.

Elevada a la categoría de ciudad, el 15 de Abril de 1835, por el entonces presidente, coronel Felipe Santiago Salaverry. El cual le confiriere el título de "Ciudad Heroica" que ostenta hasta hoy, en reconocimiento al coraje de los chiclayanos.

En la actualidad Chiclayo es una de las ciudades más importantes del Perú, en ella se reúnen los ingredientes de una moderna metrópoli, el espíritu campechano de las ciudades de Provincia, así como la historia, leyenda y tradición.

Esta ciudad es llamada también la Capital de la Amistad, Ciudad Heróica y Perla del Norte del Perú.

El turismo cultural y arqueologico se convertirá en los próximos años, en el principal ingreso de la región.
